ITEM DESCRIPTION: This is a 2019-20 Ottawa Senators Away Set 1 jersey utilized by Anders Nilsson. It was used by him throughout the entire preseason, as well as in 10 games of regular season action. Most notably, he wore the jersey in his final ever NHL game played on December 16, 2019
SHORT BIO: Born on March 19, 1990 in Lulea, Sweden, Anders Nilsson was a budding young star in Sweden when he was drafted 62nd overall by the New York Islanders in 2009. The tall 6'6" netminder remained in Sweden for two more seasons thereafter, even winning a bronze medal at the 2009-10 IIHF World Junior Championships, and then a silver medal at the 2011 IIHF Worlds. He entered the North American pro ranks in 2011-12, where he spent the majority of the season with Bridgeport in the AHL.
On November 19, 2011, however, Nilsson made his NHL debut for the Isles. Replacing Rick DiPietro in goal for the final 39:41 vs Boston, he stopped 14 of 17 shots he faced in New York's 6-0 defeat. Nilsson ended up appearing in four NHL games that year, even recording a shutout in his third game. After one more year in North America and a further 19 games with the Isles, Nilsson returned to play in Europe in the KHL, but not before winning a bronze medal with Sweden at the 2014 IIHF Worlds. After an excellent season overseas, and with his rights traded by the Isles to Chicago, Nilsson was traded onto the Edmonton Oilers for the 2015-16 campaign. He played 26 games in Edmonton before being acquired by the St. Louis Blues. Nilsson then spent the 2016-17 season in Buffalo before being acquired by Vancouver in 2017-18. In 2018, he also led Sweden to the gold medal at the IIHF World Championships while having the tournament's best GAA and save percentage. The 2018-19 season saw Nilsson traded from Vancouver to Ottawa in the deal that saw Mike McKenna head to Vancouver. Nilsson played the remainder of the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons with Ottawa before being traded to Tampa Bay. He never played for the Bolts as he was injured and ultimately retired from play due to his injuries. He is currently a goalie scout and development coach for the New Jersey Devils. In his NHL career, Anders Nilsson appeared in 161 regular season games, going 59-74-15 with 6 shutouts, 3 assists, a 3.06GAA, and a 0.907% save average. He did not appear in any NHL playoff games. |
