SHORT BIO: Born on March 15, 1988, in Arborg, Manitoba, James Reimer was playing junior hockey for the Red Deer Rebels when the Toronto Maple Leafs drafted him 99th overall in 2006. He entered the pro ranks for the 2008-09 season, splitting time among the AHL's Toronto Marlies and the ECHL's Reading Royals and South Carolina Stingrays. During that rookie campaign, he led South Carolina to the Kelly Cup championship and earned playoff MVP honors. By the following year, Reimer became a full-time AHL player. He started the 2010-11 season in the minors before earning his NHL call-up. On December 20, 2010, Reimer made his NHL debut against the Atlanta Thrashers, replacing Jonas Gustavsson as he stopped all four shots that he faced in relief. The Maple Leafs kept him on the roster for the remainder of the year, during which he appeared in 37 NHL games and subsequently represented Team Canada that off-season.
Over the next five seasons in Toronto, Reimer played in an additional 170 games before being traded to the San Jose Sharks in 2016. His journey then took him to numerous stops across the league including: three seasons in Florida, two in Carolina, two more in San Jose, one in Detroit, and a split stint with the Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks during the 2024-25 season. After finding himself on the outside looking in for a continued NHL role, his strong performance at the Spengler Cup earned Reimer a Professional Tryout (PTO) with the Ottawa Senators which resulted in a contract for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. He served as the backup to Linus Ullmark, appearing in 14 games. As of the time of this write-up, Reimer remains an unrestricted free agent. Among his career accolades include winning the ECHL Kelly Cup (2009), and being named the ECHL Playoffs’ MVP (2009). Barring an NHL comeback, in his NHL career, James Reimer appeared in 539 regular season games, going 232-191-67 with 32 shutouts, 3 assists, a 2.88GAA, and a 0.909% save percentage. In 11 playoff games, he went 5-5 with a 2.70GAA, and a 0.925% save percentage. |
