Born on November 1, 1998 in Edmonton, Alberta, Stuart Skinner was a standout prospect with the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the WHL when he was drafted 78th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2017. Skinner stayed in juniors for an additional season, being traded to and then leading the Swift Current Broncos to the WHL Championship and competing for the Memorial Cup. He officially turned pro in 2018-19, spending the majority of the season with Wichita in the ECHL, though seeing some AHL action with Bakersfield. In 2020-21, fully in the AHL, Skinner led the league with wins. Then, that same season, the moment happened. On January 31, 2021, Stuart Skinner got the start in goal for the Oilers vs the Ottawa Senators and he stopped 33 shots in an 8-5 victory. In 2021-22, he led the AHL in shutouts, and also appeared in 13 more games with Edmonton. By 2022-23, he had earned the starting reins with the Oilers and he appeared in 50 games, while appearing in the NHL All-Star Game, and being named one of the finalists for the Calder Memorial Trophy. In 2023-24, he appeared in even more games for the Oilers and after a shaky start to the season, eventually turned it around and helped lead the Oilers to within one win of their first Stanley Cup in 34 years. He is still their number one goalie as of the time of this write-up.
Career stats will not be posted at this time, as he is still very much active in the NHL.
