2007-08 game worn ottawa senators vaughn goalie blocker
*nhl debut worn
What you are looking at right now is a game worn Vaughn goalie blocker used by Brian Elliott early in the 2007-08 season, including his NHL debut with the Ottawa Senators on October 10, 2007. It is definitively photomatched and is a fine piece of history of a highly competent NHL netminder.
Born on April 9, 1985, in Newmarket, Ontario, Brian Elliott was drafted 291st overall by Ottawa in 2003. Opting to go to college before attempting pro hockey, Elliott became a star netminder in the NCAA with the University of Wisconsin, winning the Championship in 2006 and also being named the Goaltending Champion in both 2006 and 2007. He transitioned to the pros after his college career ended by appearing in 8 games with Binghamton at the end of the 2006-07 season. In 2007-08 Elliott started the season on the Ottawa Senators as the backup to Martin Gerber while Ray Emery was out. Then, on October 10, 2007, Elliott made his NHL debut against Atlanta. Only his ninth ever pro hockey game, Elliott impressed as he stopped 28 shots in a 3-1 win. By 2009-10, he had become the number one goalie in Ottawa before he was traded to Colorado in 2011.
In 2011-12, he had a highly memorable season as a member of the St. Louis Blues. Forming a deadly 1-2 punch with Jaroslav Halak, Elliott appeared in 38 games that season, recording 23 wins, 9 shutouts, a 1.56GAA, and a 0.940% save average. The two goalies shared the William M. Jennings Trophy that season. After four more seasons in St. Louis, highlighted by him leading St. Louis to the Conference Finals in 2016, Elliott was acquired by Calgary where he played 49 games. He then played four seasons in Philadelphia as a veteran presence before being signed by Tampa Bay in 2021. As of the date of this write-up, Elliott was still a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning as the number two netminder behind Andrei Vasilevskiy.
As his career is ongoing, his career numbers will not be posted at this time.
Though matched to several of his rookie cards, further clear photomatches of the blocker can be seen in these images:
