ITEM DESCRIPTION: This 2009-10 Phoenix Coyotes Set 1 Home Jersey was used by Jason LaBarbera in his first year with the squad. This jersey was used for his 40th career win.
SHORT BIO: Born on January 18, 1980 in Burnaby, British Columbia, Jason LaBarbera was a more-than-competent junior goalie, having some strong years in the WHL with Portland, also having some stints with Spokane and Tri City. His strong play in the juniors got him drafted 66th overall by the New York Rangers in 1998. After finishing his junior career in 1999-00, LaBarbera wasted no time, making his NHL debut next season (2000-01).
On October 14, 2000. LaBarbera replaced Kirk McLean between the pipes and stopped both shots that he faced in the team's 8-6 loss to Pittsburgh. He spent most of the remainder of that season in the ECHL however. His next four opportunities in the show came in 2003-04 when he was undoubtedly the best goalie in the AHL. He set an AHL all-time record for 13 shutouts in a single season that year, was the AHL League MVP, and yet remained behind Dan Blackburn in the Rangers' depth chart. Following the lock-out, LaBarbera became a member of the Los Angeles Kings. Over the course of three seasons, LaBarbera went from full-time NHL back-up, down to AHL starter, then to NHL starter when he appeared in a career high 45 games. After 19 games in 2008-09, LaBarbera was acquired by the Vancouver Canucks with which he appeared in nine games. The Phoenix Coyotes then signed him and he remained a member of their squad for four seasons before joining the Edmonton Oilers in 2013-14. After only seven games, he was acquired by Chicago, and despite a call-up, he was pretty much relegated to their AHL squad. He appeared in five final NHL games with Anaheim in 2014-15 before closing out his playing career with Philadelphia's AHL affiliate in 2015-16. After retirement, he became the goalie coach for the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL. As of 2024-25, he is currently a goaltending coach for the Calgary Flames. In his NHL career, Jason LaBarbera appeared in 187 games and recorded a 62-73-0-20 record with 6 shutouts, 2 assists, a 2.85GAA and a 0.909% save average. He played in zero playoff games. |
