2001-02 ottawa senators / grand rapids griffins Game Worn Koho Glove and Blocker Set
*nhl debut worn
Born on January 22, 1981 in Quebec City, Canada, Simon Lajeunesse was a star goalie for the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL. He was drafted 48th overall by the Ottawa Senators in 1999 and he played two additional seasons in the QMJHL for Moncton, Acadie-Bathurst, and Val d'Or. He finally transitioned to the pros in 2001-02, splitting time mostly between the ECHL and AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins. However, it happened. On recall by the Sens on March 7, 2002, Patrick Lalime started the game against San Jose, however, after letting in five goals, out went Lalime, and in went Lajeunesse. He played the final 23 and a half minutes of the game, stopping all nine shots that he faced. He remained on recall for two additional games, though did not get into further NHL action. He did end up winning the AHL trophy for having the league's lowest goals against average, which he shared with teammates Martin Prusek and Mathieu Chouinard.
The next season, he began the year with the Sens' AHL affiliate, though he did get a recall in November. He was later traded to Florida near the end of the season in exchange for enforcer, Joey Tetarenko. In 2003-04 and 2004-05, he split time between six different ECHL teams and he had a short 8 game AHL stint with San Antonio. He left the pro ranks after the 2004-05 season and he appeared in two seasons in the LNAH before retiring from play.
In his NHL career, Simon Lajeunesse appeared in one NHL game, recording an 0-0-0 record with a 0.00GAA and a 1.000% save average. He appeared in no post-season games.
What you are looking at right now is a Koho glove and blocker set worn by Lajeunesse during the 2001-02 season. It is definitively photomatched to his time with both the Griffins in the AHL, as well his time with the Sens. This set was very likely used in his only NHL game as well.
Acquired from: Private Collector on eBay
Dates of Game Use: Continuous throughout 2001-02 AHL season
