Darren Eliot
1987-88 Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Road Jersey
What you are looking at right now is a 1987-88 Detroit Red Wings game worn road jersey used by Darren Eliot in his lone season in Detroit. It exhibits excellent wear in the form of pilling, black marks, abrasions, and fight strap salt. Given that Eliot only dressed in 14 games and played in 3 of them for the Red Wings that season, some of the wear is noted to possibly be attributed to a Massachusetts based amateur netminder (of similar age to Eliot) who was known to wear NHL goalie gamers in his possession in that era.
Born on November 26, 1961 in Milton, Ontario, Darren Eliot was drafted 115th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in 1980 after his first season in the NCAA. In 1983-84, Eliot represented Team Canada in 32 games of international play prior to the Olympics where he then played in 2 games for Canada. He also turned pro that season, seeing 7 games of action with New Haven in the AHL.
He became a full-time NHLer in 1984-85, and on October 13, 1984 he made his NHL debut vs the Vancouver Canucks. Starting in goal for the Kings, Eliot stopped 29 shots in a 6-5 overtime loss. Eliot appeared in 33 games during his rookie season and recorded 12 wins. After two more seasons with the Kings, Eliot was signed as a free agent by the Detroit Red Wings. Though he spent most of the season in the minors with Adirondack, Eliot played 3 games for the NHL club. He played his final two NHL games with Buffalo in 1988-89. He retired from play in 1989 and took on various broadcasting and executive roles, most recently being the Senior Vice President Hockey Programming and Facility Operations for the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
In his NHL career, Darren Eliot appeared in 89 regular season games, going 25-41-12 with 1 shutout, 2 assists, a 4.59GAA and a 0.851% save average. In 1 playoff game, he went 0-0 with a 10.50GAA, and a 0.759% save average.
