Mikko Koskinen
2019-20 Edmonton Oilers Game Worn Orange Set 1 Jersey
What you are looking at right now is a 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers Orange Set 1 jersey worn by Mikko Koskinen in the first part of the season from early October to the beginning of December. The wear is excellent, comprised of several deep black marks, an unrepaired hole, and some minor pilling on the torso. It is definitively photomatched.
Born on July 18, 1988 in Vantaa, Finland, Mikko Koskinen was drafted 31st overall by the New York Islanders in 2009 after posting elite numbers in the SM-Liiga in Finland. Koskinen transitioned to the North American pro ranks in 2009-10, splitting the season in the AHL and ECHL with Bridgeport and Utah respectively. The following season, he spent the majority of the year in the American league before getting recalled by the New York Islanders in February 2011. Then, on February 8, 2011, it happened. Koskinen got the start in goal vs the Toronto Maple Leafs. He stopped 21 of 26 shots that he faced in a 5-3 defeat. He played the new three consecutive games as well (going 2-0-0) before being re-assigned to Bridgeport. The next year, after only three games in the AHL, Koskinen returned to Finland to play.
Over the next 7 seasons, Koskinen remained overseas, playing in Finland, and then becoming a KHL star over in Russia, even winning the Gagarin Cup (the KHL's Championship Trophy) in 2017. He also represented his homeland at the IIHF Worlds in 2014 and 2016, while winning silver and being named the best goaltender in the 2016 tournament. He also represented Finland internationally at the Winter Olympics in 2018.
In 2018-19, Koskinen returned to North America when he was signed as a free agent by the Edmonton Oilers for the 2018-19 season. Becoming the number one goalie, he appeared in 55 games that season, going 25-21-6 with 4 shutouts as he also earned a three year contract for his hard-work in January 2009. Over the next three seasons, he and Mike Smith formed a tandem in Edmonton as Koskinen appeared in a further 109 games and 7 playoff games in that time. In 2022-23, with Koskinen's contract up, he was signed by HC Lugano in Switzerland, and as of 2023-24, he continues to play there to this day.
In his NHL career, Mikko Koskinen appeared in 168 NHL games, going 85-60-13 with 6 shutouts, 4 assists, a 3.01GAA, and a 0.906% save average. In 7 playoff games, he went 1-4 with a 3.42GAA, and a 0.892% save average.
