Dan Cloutier
1999-00 tampa bay lightning game worn home jersey
What you are looking at right now is a game worn 1999-00 Tampa Bay Lightning home jersey used by Dan Cloutier in his first season as an NHL number-one netminder. It features excellent wear including a massive team repair near the crest, tons of black marks, heavy pilling in the collar, and an unrepaired laceration.
Born on April 22, 1976, in Mont-Laurier, Quebec, Cloutier was a Memorial Cup Champ with the Soo Greyhounds in 1993 behind Kevin Hodson. The next season he became their number goalie as he recorded 28 wins and led them to the Semi-Finals of the OHL playoffs. That off-season, he was drafted 26th overall by the New York Rangers. Remaining in juniors, he was a part of the gold medal winning Canadian team at the 1994-95 World Junior Championships, then had another good season in the OHL in 1995-96 before transitioning to the pro ranks.
In 1996-97, he was the starter in Binghamton. Though he did get a recall to the Rangers, he never saw action with them that season. He began the next season in the minors but then, it happened. While on recall with the New York Rangers he replaced Mike Richter in goal for nearly 54 minutes of the game vs Washington. Cloutier was perfect in goal as he stopped all 16 shots that he faced in a 3-2 win. From there, he remained a regular on the Rangers' roster for most of the remainder of the season. He also gained infamy for a goalie fight vs Tommy Salo he had on April 4, 1998 before taunting the rest of the opposing team. By 1998-99, he was the full-time number two in New York behind Richter, appearing in 22 games for the club. He was traded to Tampa Bay for 1999-00, and Cloutier got his chance to be an NHL number one.
That year, he appeared in 52 games, going 9-30-3, while also recording 29 PIM and getting into another goalie fight, this time with Steve Passmore. After part of one more season in Tampa Bay, which saw him get into yet another goalie fight in the pre-season vs Sean Gauthier, he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in February 2001. From 2000-01 to 2005-06, Cloutier became the goaltender of the franchise, appearing in 208 games, while recording 109 wins, 14 shutouts and a 0.906% save average. Injury problems and some spotty playoff goaltending ultimately led to him being traded to Los Angeles in 2006. After two seasons in their system which was most notable for his switch from his traditional combo mask to a more modern one, he remained unsigned in 2008-09. The Detroit Red Wings invited him to training camp in 2009, then after a 3 game tryout with Rockford, he was released and then retired from play. After retiring, he took up coaching and was affiliated with the Canucks goaltending development from 2012-13 to 2018-19.
In his NHL career, Cloutier appeared in 351 games, recording a 139-142-33-4 record with 15 shutouts, 5 assists, a 2.77GAA, and a 0.899% save average. In 25 playoff games, he went 10-13 with a 3.31GAA and a 0.872% save average.
