Jacob Markstrom
2022-23 Calgary Flames game worn ccm blocker
What you are looking at right now is a game worn 2022-23 CCM goalie blocker that was used by Jacob Markstrom while with the Calgary Flames. It exhibits excellent game wear and is photomatched to 3 games in February of 2023.
Born on January 31, 1990, in Gavel, Sweden, Markstrom was drafted 31st overall by the Florida Panthers in 2008. Remaining in Sweden for the two seasons following his draft, he was showing some promising signs of what he would be made of in the NHL. He was a World Junior Championships Silver Medalist while leading the tournament with the best save percentage and being named the best goaltender in 2008. Then in 2009-10, he was a World Junior Championship Bronze Medalist, IIHF Worlds bronze medalist, and a rookie superstar in the Swedish Elitserien.
He transitioned to the North American pros in 2010-11 with San Antonio and on January 23, 2011, it happened. While on recall, the Panthers were facing the New Jersey Devils. Replacing Scott Clemmensen in goal, Markstrom played the final 2 periods of the game, stopping 12 of 14 shots in a 5-2 loss. He appeared in 7 more games with Florida in 2011-12, then 23 in 2012-13. That year he also won an IIHF Gold Medal. After 12 less than stellar games with the Panthers in 2013-14, he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in the deal that saw Roberto Luongo return to Florida.
Markstrom was used sparingly in his first two seasons with the Canucks, though he was an AHL All-Star in 2015. He slowly earned more responsibility, and ended up appearing in 229 games with the club from 2013-14 to 2019-20, even becoming an NHL All-Star in 2020. That off-season, the Calgary Flames signed him to a six year contract as a free agent and he has been their number one goalie ever since, peaking (thus far) with a 63 game, 37 win, 9 shutout season in 2021-22.
As his career is still active and currently sitting at 437 regular season games played, Jacob Markstrom's NHL career stats will not be posted at this time.
