Born on December 28, 1989 in Toijala, Finland, Harri Sateri was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in 2008 and he transitioned to the North American pro hockey ranks at the end of 2010-11 with the Worcester Sharks. He got his first NHL recall in 2011, however, never saw any game action. After three full seasons with Worcester with no NHL action, Sateri headed overseas to the KHL. In 2017-18, he returned to North America after being signed by the Florida Panthers, and on January 2, 2018, it finally happened. In a musical chairs kind of night which saw him replaced by James Reimer, only to then replace Reimer, and then be replaced once again, Harri Sateri played just a bit over 23 minutes against Minnesota, stopping 13 of 14 shots in his team's 5-1 defeat. He went on to appear in 9 games with Florida that year before being signed as a free agent by Detroit the following season. With a brief recall, but no more NHL action, he returned to the KHL for two more seasons, even leading Finland to the IIHF Worlds' Silver Medal. In 2021-22, he began the season in the KHL, played for the Euro Hockey Tour for Finland and he also led Team Finland to the Olympic Gold Medal. When the political situation in Russia became uncertain and many international players left the KHL, Sateri was signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs as they were heavily depleted in goal based on several injuries. Unfortunately, under NHL rules, international players joining later in the season must first clear waivers before being able to play for the team. Sateri did not clear as the Arizona Coyotes picked him away from Toronto. He played 6 games with them to close out the season before signing in Europe once again for the 2022-23 season.
