After another strong campaign in 2000-01, along with some additional Team Canada experience, Brathwaite was traded to St. Louis in the deal that saw Roman Turek go to the Flames. After two seasons with the Blues, he joined the Blue Jackets for 21 games in the 2003-04 campaign.
He headed overseas to play in Russia with Ak Bars Kazan in 2004-05 and in 2005-06, he was the Russian League's Best Goaltender, as he led his team to a championship victory. He returned to North America in 2006 as he was signed by the Atlanta Thrashers. After two seasons with Chicago in the AHL, Brathwaite returned to Europe, this time to play in Germany. In 2008-09, he led the DEL in shutouts, played in the all-star game, and he was also named the Player of the Year. After retiring from play in 2012, he took up coaching and he is currently the goalie coach for the Henderson Silver Knights in the AHL. In 2020-21, he even got the opportunity to dress as the emergency backup for the team while wearing his old Atlanta Thrashers gear.
