*First NHL Win worn
Chad Johnson, born June 10, 1986 in Calgary, Alberta was drafted 125th overall by Pittsburgh in 2006. Opting to finish a four year degree at the University of Alaska, Johnson did not turn pro until the 2009-10 season, after which the Rangers acquired his rights from the Penguins for a fifth round draft pick. That first year, he got into five NHL games, recording a 1-2-1 record with an impressive 0.919% save average. The majority of the year was spent with the Hartford Wolf Pack, however. The following year, he played only 20 minutes with the Rangers before being seemingly banished down to the AHL. For the remainder of the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, Johnson toiled in the American Hockey League, trying to hit the big-time once again. For the 2012-13 season, the Phoenix Coyotes took a chance and signed Johnson as a free agent. In four games with the Coyotes, he recorded a 2-0-2 record with a great 1.22GAA, 1 shutout, and a 0.954% save average. His impressive numbers got him noticed by the Boston Bruins who subsequently signed him for the 2013-14 season to back up Tuukka Rask. In 27 games that season, he recorded a brilliant 17-4-3 record with a 2.10 GAA, 2 shutouts, and a 0.925% save average. He was then signed by the Islanders in 2014, then made his way to Buffalo the following season. In 2016-17, Johnson was acquired by the Calgary Flames before the Buffalo Sabres re-acquired him in 2017-18. The next season, he was signed by the St. Louis Blues to back-up Jake Allen, however, after ten games he was placed on waivers and then signed by the Anaheim Ducks. After finishing off the season with the Ducks, he was not re-signed by the team and was sent into free agency. Unfortunately, no one signed Johnson and he had not played a professional game since February 9, 2019.
In his NHL career, Johnson appeared in 192 games, recording an 80-73-15 record with eight shutouts, three assists, a 2.73GAA and a 0.907% save average. He also appeared in one playoff game, recording an 0-1 record with a 1.16GAA and a 0.952% save average.
The jersey you see before you was worn in Chad Johnson's first NHL start (Jan. 7, 2010 vs. Thrashers), first NHL win (Jan. 31, 2010 vs. Colorado), first NHL loss (Jan. 7, 2010 vs. Thrashers), first NHL shootout (Jan. 7, 2010 vs. Thrashers), and first NHL point (Jan. 7, 2010 vs. Thrashers).
