1995-96 game worn edmonton oilers home jersey
This here is a game worn 1995-96 Edmonton Oilers home jersey utilized by Joaquin Gage throughout his first full NHL season including his first career win. It features excellent wear including many puck marks, pilling on the sleeves, and multiple team repairs. This was the final year of that particular Oilers' jersey design as a regular style as they transitioned to the first generation of the copper and blue beginning in 1996-97.
Born on October 19, 1973 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Joaquin Gage was a strong prospect coming out of the Portland Winter Hawks of the WHL. Gage was drafted 109th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 5th round of the 1992 NHL Draft and he remained in the WHL after his draft year. After finishing his junior career, he transitioned to the pro ranks in 1994-95 with the Cape Breton Oilers of the American Hockey League. Despite being only 21 years of age and in his first year in the pros, Gage was recalled by the Oilers late in the season.
On May 1, 1995, Gage made his NHL debut. In relief of Fred Brathwaite, Gage played the final 40 minutes of the game against Toronto and he stopped 17 of 19 shots in the Oilers' 6-5 loss. Two days later, he got his first ever NHL start. Facing the provincial rival in Calgary, Gage and the Oilers were defeated 5-3. The next year, Gage became the third most utilized goalie on the squad and a reliable option no matter the situation as he appeared in 16 NHL games behind Bill Ranford (37 games) and then Curtis Joseph (34 games). For the next five seasons, Gage bounced around the AHL and ECHL, though he put himself back on the radar while playing with Team Canada in 1999-00. In 2000-01, Gage made his way back into the NHL for an additional five games with the Oilers. After the season concluded, Gage headed to Europe where he played in Britain (league MVP in 2002), Sweden, Germany, and Italy before retiring from play after the 2007-08 season.
In his NHL career, Joaquin Gage appeared in 23 games, recording a 4-12-1 record with one assist, a 3.73GAA, and an 0.870% save average. He played in zero playoff games.
