cam ward
circa 2004-06 carolina hurricanes / lowell lock monsters game worn vaughn bioflex goalie glove
Cam Ward was born on February 29, 1984 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and after showing superstar tendencies early on with the Red Rebels, Ward was drafted 25th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2002. Coming off a WHL season which saw him win the Goaltender of the Year award, he went on to record the league's best save average in 2002-03, then went on to be named the WHL Player of the Year, as well as the WHL's and CHL's Goaltender of the Year in 2004. He transitioned to the pros during the 2004-05 NHL lockout and made an excellent first impression as he recorded a league-best 0.937% save average while playing 50 games for the Lowell Lock Monsters.
In 2005-06, he made the Carolina Hurricanes' opening night roster and started the season as a backup to Martin Gerber. On opening night, October 5, 2005, Cam Ward made his NHL debut. Facing the Tampa Bay Lightning, Martin Gerber started the game, however, after allowing four goals on 19 shots over two periods of play, Cam Ward was sent in for the final period. He allowed one goal on 11 shots in a 5-2 defeat. Ward played 28 games behind Gerber that season...then came the playoffs. With the Hurricanes struggling against Montreal and Martin Gerber bearing the brunt of that, the 'Canes made the choice to go with Cam Ward full-time after game two. It was the right choice as Cam Ward went on to lead the Hurricanes into the Stanley Cup Final (with a key shutout from Martin Gerber also helping to get there) against the Edmonton Oilers. Ward ultimately led the team to a Stanley Cup win in 7 games, and he also took home the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP. From there, Cam Ward became the franchise goalie of the Carolina Hurricanes, appearing in 668 regular season games for the team over 13 seasons in Raleigh. He also led them back into the Conference Finals in 2009, was an NHL All-Star in 2011, and was even credited with a goal in 2011-12. In 2018-19, the Canes decided to go in another direction and let Cam Ward go to free agency. He was signed by the Chicago Blackhawks and he played the final 33 games of his NHL career behind Corey Crawford. He retired at the conclusion of that season after signing a one-day contract with the Canes so he could retire with the team he became famous with.
In his NHL career, Cam Ward appeared in 701 regular season games, recording a 334-256-88 record with 27 shutouts, a goal, 12 assists, a 2.74GAA, and a 0.908% save average. In 41 playoff games, he recorded a 23-18 record with 4 shutouts, a 2.38GAA, and a 0.917% save average.
What you are looking at right now is a game worn/used circa 2004-06 Vaughn Bioflex glove that was utilized by Cam Ward at some point during his early career with the Canes and/or Lock Monster. By the 2006 playoffs he switched to a glove with a "Vaughn" cuff, versus the "Vaughn Bioflex" cuff that can be seen on this one throughout the regular season. The wear is decent, with lots of puck marks.
