2012-13 Game Worn utah grizzlies Home Jersey
Born on April 9, 1987 in Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA, Shawn Hunwick (brother of NHLer Matt Hunwick) worked his way to becoming a star goalie at the University of Michigan, winning the Mason Cup and being named Tournament MVP with them in 2010, then being named the Best Goalie in 2010-11, and even ending up as a Hobey Baker finalist in 2011-12. In 2011-12, at the conclusion of his University career, Hunwick was signed by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Due to multiple goalie injuries on the team and in their minor-league system, he jumped right from college to the NHL the day that he signed his contract. He sat on the bench as the dressed back-up for four games before he finally got his chance. On April 7, 2012, Hunwick replaced Steve Mason between the pipes against the New York Islanders and was in net for two minutes and thirty-three seconds without facing any shots.
After the season concluded, Hunwick briefly played in a tournament with EC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria before being let go by the team after four games. In 2012-13, he was assigned to the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL by the Providence Bruins and he played in nine games with them. He was then traded to the Utah Grizzlies on November 19, 2012 where he appeared for two games before he was released by the team on November 27. He played eight games in Germany after that, and then retired at the end of the season at the age of 26. He is currently a hockey player agent. He had a very chaotic pro hockey career that only lasted 20 games over two seasons representing the NHL, ECHL, and European DEL, but he lived the dream as he made it and played in the NHL, one of a proud and relatively few to have played in "The Show".
In his NHL career, Shawn Hunwick appeared in one game, recording an 0-0-0 record with a 0.00GAA and a 0.000% save average as he faced no shots. He appeared in zero playoff games.
What you are looking at right now is a 2012-13 Utah Grizzlies game worn home jersey used by Shawn Hunwick in the first half of the season including both games that he played in with the team. The wear on it is tremendous, comprised of several unrepaired holes, tons of heavy puck/stick marks, piling, post paint transfer, and at least one nameplate switch. With the heavy wear on it, inconsistent for only two games with the team over eight days, it is extremely likely that Hunwick was wearing a recycled jersey likely used by other goalies from either that season or the previous one. The possible goalies who could have also worn the jersey include: Shane Owen, Ryan Donovan, Jimmy Spratt, Will Gagnon, Ben Gaskins, Ian Greenwald, Matt Pamidi, and Micah Perletti.
